Dental Crowns and Bridges in Reno, NV

There are plenty of ways we can enhance and restore your smile, no matter what dental problem you are suffering from. But the best dental restorations are done with esthetics in mind.

At the office of Dan Barrett DMD, we believe that every dental problem is another opportunity to enhance the appearance, health, and functionality of your smile.

Dental crowns and bridges are two of the most common types of dental restorations. Both have to be strong and durable, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be attractive. Dr. Barrett uses the highest quality materials to create crowns and bridges to restore your smile. We use only all-porcelain crowns because they offer all the strength and beauty needed for a natural-looking restoration.

How We Use Crowns and Bridges

Porcelain Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are caps that are used to cover a tooth that has been seriously damaged or decayed. Placing a dental crown replaces lost tooth structure and allows the tooth to be functional again. Our porcelain crowns will restore your beautiful smile and also prevent you from experiencing the pain and discomfort that come with tooth decay, damage, or injury.

The best candidates for dental crowns are people who have experienced serious tooth damage or decay that can't be treated using a simple dental filling. Our esthetic porcelain crowns look so natural that we can even use them to correct certain cosmetic problems like severely stained or misshapen teeth. We also offer zirconia crowns that are highly durable and appropriate for teeth like molars that withstand a lot of wear.

Fixed Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace one or several consecutive missing teeth. They consist of an artificial tooth that is suspended between crowns attached to adjacent teeth.

The artificial tooth prevents surrounding teeth from drifting into the empty space, but their primary function is to act as an esthetic replacement for the missing tooth.

A dental bridge will work for you if you have experienced tooth loss and are not a good candidate for a dental implant.

Frequently Asked Questions

We generally place dental crowns when a tooth is too severely damaged or weak to be supported by a filling. A crown is a restoration that fits over your tooth to restore function and protect it from damage. Dental crowns are also used to restore dental implants.

Dental crowns at our Reno, NV office are made using either porcelain or zirconia. Porcelain crowns are highly esthetic because they look very much like a natural tooth. We would usually place a porcelain crown on your front teeth or other teeth that are visible when you smile. Zirconia is an extremely durable material that is most appropriate for molars and teeth that take a lot of wear and tear.

If we determine that a crown is appropriate for you, Dr. Barrett will start by preparing your natural tooth. Then he will take impressions of your teeth, which will be used to create your new crown. We will prepare a temporary crown for you to wear while your new permanent crown is being made. After about two weeks, when your final crown is ready, we’ll have you return to our office to make any adjustments and then permanently place the crown.

The result is a beautiful “new” tooth and restored ability to chew normally. If you would like to learn more about dental crowns, please give us a call!
