Comfortable Dentures in Reno, NV
In the past, denture wearers had to deal with rigid dentures that provided function, but didn’t feel comfortable or natural. We won’t tell you that dentures will ever feel 100% like natural teeth. But today we have access to materials that allow us to create dentures that look and feel as close to natural teeth as possible.
At the office of Dan Barrett DMD, we love transforming smiles for people who never thought they would be happy with dentures. Of course we will customize your new full or partial denture to restore function and allow you to eat and speak normally.
But it’s equally important to focus on esthetics to help your dentures look like they belong in your mouth. Your new dentures will be designed to complement your features, follow the contours of your jaw line, and restore the youthful proportions of your face.
Dentures Options
There are two types of dentures – partial and full.
Flexible Partial Dentures
A partial denture is used to replace a few missing teeth. It is designed to fit around natural existing teeth and held in place by clasps that attach to neighboring teeth.
If you currently wear a partial, you may find that it just doesn’t fit properly. It can be a challenge to create a rigid partial that feels natural. But our flexible partial dentures solve that problem. Rather than using acrylic for the base, flexible dentures are made with a thin, unbreakable nylon material. Since they’re flexible, our partial dentures conform closely to the contours of your mouth for a naturally comfortable fit.
Full Dentures
We use full dentures for patients who are missing all their teeth. Traditional full dentures sit on the gums and are removable. Dr. Barrett knows that the best dentures are those that don’t look like dentures. That is why he will take any steps necessary to create full dentures that restore function and give you back the beautiful smile you thought was gone forever.
Your new dentures will be made to our exact specifications. Even so, they are still a removable prosthetic and not a part of your natural mouth structure. If this concerns you – or you would just like a more permanent tooth replacement, we also offer implant-supported dentures.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that’s permanently placed in your jaw and used to support a restoration like a crown, bridge, or denture. In the case of dentures, Dr. Barrett will work with a specialist who will expertly place the implants in your jaw. Dr. Barrett will then craft your denture with special attachments that snap onto the implant to hold the denture firmly in place. You don’t have to deal with messy adhesives or removing your dentures at night. Implant-supported dentures provide the ultimate in comfort and stability.

Frequently Asked Questions
It’s important to replace a tooth that’s been lost to disease, decay, or trauma. Leaving an empty space in your mouth doesn’t help your appearance, and it’s not good for your oral health either.
At the office of Dan Barrett DMD, we offer several options for tooth replacement. But dental implants are the number one choice of doctors and patients alike because they offer so many benefits.
Unlike other tooth replacements, such as bridges or dentures, implants are a truly permanent tooth replacement. The titanium implant is placed securely in your jaw, where it will integrate naturally with surrounding bone and tissue. This means that the implant actually becomes part of your dental anatomy.
Dental implants are versatile and can be restored with a dental crown or attached to bridges or dentures for extra support. The presence of a dental implant in your mouth is also helpful because it prevents bone in the area of the missing tooth from deteriorating. Once a crown or other restoration is attached to the implant, you can enjoy a fully functional permanent tooth. The restoration may need to be replaced over time, but the implant will never need to be replaced.
There’s a lot to learn about dental implants, and we will be happy to spend some time talking to you about the ways they can benefit you. Please call our Reno, NV dental office to arrange a convenient consultation.
